Brunt and Eggbert Synopsis

With each passing day, they were learning new things, growing into their roles as father and son, monster and boy, and overcoming the challenges of living in both the human world and the monster world.

Brunt is a kind and intelligent but scary-looking monster who loves gardening. Eggbert is an orphaned boy with an unusual assortment of skills that he has learned from the kindness of strangers while longing for a family of his own. After a chance encounter in the woods, both monster and boy learn to look beyond appearances, discover the true meaning of family, and rejoice in the rewarding experience of caring for and protecting another—despite the treacherous obstacles that exist by virtue of having to live in both the human world and the monster world.

Brunt and Eggbert is an action-packed and heartwarming tale of unlikely friendship and chosen family. Full of colorful, lovable, and creative but imperfect characters, this unconventional children’s story unfolds over the course of eight parts, each one its own adventure. Throughout cozy cooking sessions and daring escapes, Jeff Dorrill’s wit and Ángeles Peinador’s vivid illustrations will entertain young readers and parents alike from the days of bedtime stories to the early years of independent reading. Equal parts adventure, humor, and heart, Brunt and Eggbert is sure to find its place beside the many beloved classics of our childhood memories.

Brunt and Eggbert
Happen Upon A Wreck! Synopsis

Brunt and Eggbert are the happiest pair a boy and a monster could ever be.

Their days are filled with peach cobbler experiments, cozy story times, and endless projects to make their cave feel like home. Life is perfectly peaceful—until their dear friend Astrid, the head zookeeper, shows up at their door with a tiny, chaotic surprise.

She’s a little lost monster, and she’s a WRECK! Quite literally. From shredding furniture to breaking pottery to gobbling up shoes in a single bite, Wreck turns Brunt and Eggbert’s peaceful life upside down. Eggbert can’t wait to send Wreck packing, but Brunt isn’t so sure. Is Wreck just trouble, or could she be the missing piece their family never knew they needed?

Full of heart, humor, and a whole lot of mess, Brunt and Eggbert Happen Upon a Wreck! is a story about patience, friendship, and discovering that sometimes family comes in the most unexpected (and seemingly disastrous but potentially spectacular) forms.

About The Author

Jeff Dorrill

After years of professional writing, private equity attorney Jeff Dorrill decided it was time to write something a little different. Switching gears from his experience writing law review articles, including over thirty-five pieces for publication in SMU Law Review, Baylor Law Review, and Journal of Energy and Natural Resources Law, Jeff wanted to write something that would be read for fun.

Growing up, Jeff combined the skills and life lessons he learned from each of the caring adults in his life to build his own roadmap for living. Now an adult with children of his own and recognizing that families in today’s world are formed in ever-changing ways, Jeff sought to pen an entertaining and emotional children’s book about the magic of chosen family. Inspired by the many caregivers who played a role in his own rearing, Jeff dreamt up Brunt and Eggbert and brought the story to life.

Jeff currently resides in Dallas, Texas, with his wife, Melisa, and high school student son Hunter. Jeff’s daughter Tenley, son-in-law Ryan, and grandchildren Vivian and John reside in Houston. He recently completed his third master’s degree – this one at the University of Southern California in criminal justice, and despite the time dedicated to practicing law, studying, and writing, Jeff doesn’t spend his life behind a desk. He has won multiple national championships in triathlons, including four times as the Ultra-Distance Triathlon National Champion in his age group.
